WELCOME TO THE AICARDI PROJECT!

Welcome! The Aicardi Project is a project designed by me, Sky Rotert, for the siblings of those with Aicardi's Syndrome. Information on the syndrome is hard to come across and when it is found, it's usually written for a doctor to use. This can create extra confusion in an already troubling time. With this in mind, I decided to create the Aicardi Project.

On this site you'll find:

  • What Aicardi's syndrome actually is
  • Why I decided to create this site
  • Abbey's personal story
  • Some advice for siblings
  • Hopefully in the near future stories from other siblings (see link on bottom of the page)
Remember if at any time you have questions or feedback for me, don't hesistate to contact me using the appropriate link.

What is Senior Project?

I am currently a senior at Westside High School and one of the graduation requirements is to create what's known as a Senior Project. Senior Project is a giant research project and paper. Along with the paper and research, each senior is required to have a tangible product that will be of benefit to the community.

So I decided that I would make a website on Aicardi's syndrome. In my experience with having a sibling with Aicardi's, I was left in the dark with a lot of what having Aicardi's syndrome actually is. I was left confused and I even grew apart from my sister. I want to prevent this from happening with this site.

Other than the actual product, I have to have a few more components to complete my project. With the publication of this website I'm only about halfway done with the project. After this I have to present my website to a panel of community members. This presentation has to be at least 10 minutes of me just talking. This is followed up with a 5 page reaction paper.

Sounds like a lot doesn't it?  Well, it kind of is, but we get the whole year to finish it. We also have to have what's known as a community consultant. The community consultant is someone who has background information on the topic you chose. This person guides and helps you complete your product. I chose my uncle David, who is a master website builder and all around genius. Without him I'd be in a lot of trouble. So a special thanks to uncle Dave and all the work he did to make this site possible.

I have to present my product in April as the last hurdle until I graduate in May! They people who run Senior Project at Westside locate panels of community members to watch and evaluate our presentations. We have to go and speak for a minimum of 10 minutes in front of the panel. If we go under 10 minutes, we fail. Luckily I chose a topic that will allow me to talk for a long time, so I'm not too worried about this part.

After that I'm off to graduate! I hope you all enjoy this site and I hope its as educational for you as it was to create!
